You Can DIY Public Relations

DIY PRHere's the presentation I gave last night on "DIY: How to Use Public Relations to Promote Your Business in Extraordinary Ways" to the Asian Women in Business.

Traditional Public Relations: Not Enough Anymore

In this presentation, I talked about how traditional public relations have helped business achieve success most of the time. Success is not guaranteed because:

  • No one owns media relationships.
  • Engagement takes time.
  • Media interest takes time to develop.
  • No short-cuts; No one hit wonders.
  • Persistence counts.
  • Consistency counts.
  • You need to stick around to earn respect and credibility.

Times are changing and traditional public relations tactics may not be enough to achieve some success.  There's a new mind shift taking place in the way we gather, contribute, share and process information where the world moves and reacts in real-time.  Yes, smartphones have made it easy for us to upload, post, and share comment with the web.  The ease and affordability of mobile applications have made it possible for us to replace other technological devices like handheld video camera, alarm clock, digital camera, and GPS devices. We share a lot of information about ourselves and opinions. Read David Meerman Scott's book, Real-Time Marketing and PR: How to Instantly Engage Your Market, Connect with Customers, and Create Products that Grow Your Business Now.

Content Creation is the New Marketing Engine

In this new real-time reality, public relations, marketing, community building, and social media have rapidly converged faster than we realized. Content creation is the new marketing driver and represents a ripe opportunity for business owners to do their own public relations for their own businesses.

The Referral Engine: Teaching Your Business to Market Itself

Get Seen: Online Video Secrets to Building Your Business (New Rules Social Media Series)
